ALCATRAZ ISLAND -THE ROCK
Escape the ordinary to a visit to Alcartraz Island, named for the pelicans that nest there. This iconic prison was first used by the Army in the Civil War and also known later on for hosting time to notorious criminals like mobster Al Capone and bank robber Leon “Whitey” Thompson.   Many attempted escapes happened here with no real evidence that anyone could survive such a harsh swim to shore.  It’s exactly a theory that brings people from around the world to experience this amazing place first hand! Amidst the fog, this prison still lurks in the distance; closed in 1964 due to higher operating cost, it is now and forever a large part of San Francisco!
